Age/Grade Divisions

The league has four different age/grade divisions
The Cavaliers will have four different teams based on age and grade
  • 8th Grade squad - must be enrolled in 8th grade or under; must be under 15 years of age on December 31, 2011.
  • 7th Grade squad - must be enrolled in 7th grade or under; must be under 14 years of age on December 31, 2011.
  • Young Guns - must be enrolled in 6th, 5th, or 4th grades; must be under 13 years of age on December 31, 2011.  This team is mostly composed of 5th and 6th graders.
  • 4th And Under - must be enrolled in 4th grade or under; must under 11 years of age on December 31, 2011.  This team has no lower age/grade limit, but this team did have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders on it last year.  Kindergarten is generally to young to participate because of physical size considerations.
8th, 7th, and Young Guns will play on a regulation-sized field (110 yds x 60 yds) using standard lacrosse rules and certified referees.

4U teams will play with the same lacrosse rules, but the games will be played on reduced-size fields (60 yds x 35 yds).  Players will play 7-on-7 with full lacrosse gear required, but no Defense sticks ("long poles") will be allowed.  Each game will consist of four 8-minute quarters refereed by one certified official.

Katy Cavaliers Head Coach Jason Dressel is a winner of a national youth sports coaching award

On February 18, 2011, the head coach of the Katy Cavaliers, Jason Dressel, was announced as a winner of the Positive Coaching Alliance's Double-Goal Coach Award, which honors 20 coaches nominated from the more than 4 million youth sports coaches in the nation.  Coach Jason was one of only three lacrosse coaches in the country selected as a winner of this prestigious award.

Overview

Lacrosse is a sport like no other.  It requires a combination of skills used in basketball, soccer, and ice hockey.  Lacrosse offers the speed and power of ice hockey and the endurance, agility, and strategy/passing skills of soccer and basketball.  The best part is that ANYONE can play lacrosse regardless of one's physical size.  Lacrosse is fast-paced, full of action, exciting to play, fun to watch, and a great way to stay in shape over the winter.

We are looking for 1st-8th grade boys to become part of the Katy Cavaliers.  We have four teams: an 8th-grade team, a 7th-grade team, the Young Guns team (4th-6th graders), and a new "4th and Under" team (for 1st-4th graders).  We would love to have you join us.

The first opportunity for walk-up registration will be on Saturday, October 15th, at the Cinco Ranch Public Library from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM.  A second opportunity to register will be held on Saturday, November 5th, from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM at the Cinco Ranch High School practice fields.  You can get all of the forms by clicking our Registration link next to the Home button at the top of this web page.  Open registration will be held through January 31, 2012, although you should try to register before the end of 2011 so you can practice before the regular season starts.

Lacrosse practices are tentatively scheduled to be held three days per week on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons and on Saturday mornings.  We practice at Cinco Ranch High School on the big empty piece of land between the high school parking lot and the LaCenterra Shopping Center.  Our first practice will be on Saturday, November 5th.

We will likely participate in a few scrimmages and tournaments before starting the regular season, which runs from January 28th until playoffs at the end of April.  Our games are generally held in the Greater Houston area and our homes games will be played at the Firethorne lacrosse fields.  If you have any questions, please email us at  CavalierLacrosseInfo@gmail.com.  We hope to see you playing lacrosse with the Katy Cavaliers in the future.
